College can be an intimidating and anxious experience, especially for students who are the first in their families to enroll in higher education. New students will need to learn new terminology, meet new deadlines, and acquire new skills in their transformation from curious community member to joyful graduate. Advising sessions are safe places where students can ask questions and get personalized feedback. Advising is an essential student service that helps guide students to be successful in their college journey.
Who: Prospective, newly enrolled, and current students are encouraged to make advising appointments.
When: Students should schedule appointments after completing the admissions process and continue to schedule an appointment every semester until they graduate.
Where: Advising appointments can take place in three ways: online over zoom, over the phone, or in person. Students can choose the modality they prefer.
How: Advising appointments can be set up online through the Calendly scheduler on our website. Students with questions can email advising@apachecollege.org or call (928)475-2016 if they have difficulty with the online scheduling platform.
Why: Advisors can help students identify and articulate their long-term goals and determine how their degree program can contribute towards them. Advisors can answer questions about the different programs of study offered, how to declare for one, and what courses are then needed to graduate from a particular program. Advisors can also help students identify and connect to wrap-around services offered by the college to help students succeed. These services include offerings like tutoring, counseling services, food pantry, loaner Chromebooks, how-to videos, student clubs, and others.
